Portfolios.

The workload of Parliament is divided up into several portfolios. This allows for the management of the country to be divided up into bite sized pieces. Members try to get the portfolios that represent their special interests.

Attorney General and Justice

This area deals with the formulation of legislation covering issues such as the Australian Federal Police, ASIO, Legal Aid and Juvenile detention. As such, it is one of the vital portfolios in the protection of our justice system.

This is the portfolio that oversees issues relating to the family and its' role within the broader community including adminstration of welfare benefits and workforce casualisation.

This portfolio covers issues of equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual and intersex people including anti-discrimination legislation.

This portfolio covers all issues regarding Australian Fisheries including aquaculture, fishing quotas and the protection of our fishing stock.
